Welcome to my foodie journal!
Let's do lunch, share a cocktail and have some fun!
New Orleans has so much to offer by way of local watering holes. Everyone who comes to the city has read some sort of post or researched the best place to do whatever in… the only issue I have with this data is that it seems a bit overdone and uneventful.
I had some family visit from up north recently and they looked up “most Instagram-worthy” pics to take in Nola, so hence the task of running around the city snapping photos on random peoples doorsteps in the french quarter and numerous hanging fern balcony pics on the corner of Royal Street and it’s been done a 1000 times before. Don’t get me wrong, these are great photo ops, but if I’m going to go gallivanting around the city snapping pics all day, I’m definitely having a few cocktails along the way!
So I give you my top 3 picks for “Instagram-worthy, while still getting your drink on” photo destinations, and they also happen to be off the beaten path in really cool boutique hotels. Let’s dive in!
Swanky, upscale (without being pretentious) place with really cool vibes, plush cushioned couches and quirky glassware. Loa Bar truly holds a place in my heart, not only is the vibe ULTRA cool, but the cocktails are phenomenal. Also, they happen to have an actual piece of art from this guy you may have heard of, Banksy, in the lobby and a side room displaying info from other exhibits.
As previously mentioned, we came here originally for the cocktails… which the bartenders do a fantastic job of creating seasonal, hand-crafted menu options that are not only unique but specifically-named to the area. Depending on who’s working and what kind of mood they’re in, you’ll be listening to everything from jazz to classic Dean Martin mixed with some break-beats following hits from NWA. This is my absolute top place to either start or finish a night out. We have accomplished both here at Loa, successfully, on multiple occasions.
Airy, refined, formal – unique and comfortable bar with hidden open-air courtyard featuring a sexy fountain and tucked away seating areas.
This boutique hotel also is home to restaurant Couvant, which I am a fan of, but will write about all it’s many attributes on another occasion. Quick and simple answer is yes for now, you should eat there if you can. Back to the Press Room – they have a great selection of craft cocktails as well as another seating area staged as an old library off to the right for relaxing. On Thursday through Sunday afternoons they have live music which always makes anyone happy and brings a little something extra (Lagniappe for the locals) while sipping on the beverage of your choice. They don’t really have any specialty cocktails to speak of here, I just really love the space.
This sexy mawma’s milkshake brings ALL the boys to the yard, or rather her lovely happy hour wine specials and that “Instagram-worthy” background tile! So grab your bestie and head over to enjoy this tucked away patio space for some wine and a cheese plate, you won’t be disappointed.
Sexy, sophisticated (they have books) – very mistress-inspired french boudoir. I’ll be honest, this bar is a new addition to our list. Although, I can already see us making regular visits here. They have a nice selection of Japanese Whiskey – so I’m already smitten.
It has this overall library feel but also like you would have an affair from a romance novel vibe. The interior is very… RED. Red curtains, red walls, red carpet, red upholstered couches. Beyond that I actually really enjoyed the vibe, the lighting is really low and the cocktails were strong. All our drinks were served with fresh marigolds which were extremely fragrant and gave the drinks a really special touch.
*I was told there’s a secret room attached to the bar that only guests of the hotel can access, which made me want to get a room so we could check it out… I’ll keep you posted if we make it inside at some point!
