Hey Ya'll! I grew up on the beaches of the Florida Gulf Coast, and when it was time to spread my wings New Orleans called my name and I flew to the bayou.
I'm a proud transplant going on my 12th year in this amazing city that I call home!
I love enjoying all Nola has to offer and sharing it with you.
When I first started posting I felt like I needed a handle that explained my journey from FL to LA and the transformation that happened during the process.
Thus, the Accidental Yat was born...
I was #bornonthebayou (according to CCR) and crawfish boil runs in my veins! I know where da parish is… I have a stack of beads in my house from Mardi Gras’ past, ‘make groceries’, love king cake and the only real coffee I drink has chicory in it. I ask everyone where they went to school and I'm always referring to high school… I've mastered the art of pot hole dodging and understand that no good gumbo can exist without a good roux. I ALWAYS ask about ya mom and dem and will always cheer for the Saints (no matter how bad the season is going).
Eating and drinking is a hobby here, and butter is a food group… becoming a yat isn’t something that you can acquire or learn, it just happens, and once it adapts into your soul it’s a part of your being (and your accent).
I’m excited to share my stories, experiences, and opinions with you!
Cheers! Rachel aka “The Accidental Yat"
